Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 19, 2025
The Townie Cup website and mobile app (collectively, “the Service”) are operated by the Townie Cup organization in memory of Preston Scott Pahl. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to that information.
By creating an account or registering a team, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
Information We Collect
Account registration: When you create an account we collect your first name, last name, and email address. Your password is stored as a one-way cryptographic hash — we cannot read it.
Team registration: When you register a team we collect the first name, last name, and email address of each player on the team (up to four players). This information is used to identify players on the leaderboard and scorecards.
Push notifications (mobile app): If you grant permission, the Townie Cup Android app registers your device with Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) and stores a device token on our servers. This token is used solely to deliver tournament notifications (score updates, announcements) to your device. You can revoke notification permission at any time in your device settings.
Log data: When an error occurs in the app, Firebase may automatically collect technical diagnostic information such as your device model, operating system version, and the time of the error. This data is used only for debugging and does not identify you personally.
How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account
- To register and display your team on the tournament leaderboard and scorecards
- To send tournament-related push notifications (mobile app, with your permission)
- To respond to support requests or questions
- To maintain the security of the Service
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Payments
Tournament donations and entry fees are processed through PayPal and Venmo. When you click a PayPal or Venmo link you are redirected to their respective websites. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment card or bank account information — all payment processing is handled entirely by those services.

Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information, including storing passwords as cryptographic hashes and using HTTPS for all data transmission. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
